High Performance

Surf Life Saving Queensland is making an adjustment to the High Performance (HP) program for the upcoming season to help ensure all athletes across the state have a chance to make the Queensland High Performance Squad - a stepping stone to the state and national team.

State High Performance Camp

Participants for the SLSQ High Performance Camp will be selected at the conclusion of the 5 Athlete Development Camps held across Queensland.  State selectors will be monitoring the development camps as recent surf carnivals to pick the participants for the State HP Camp.  Members who are selected into the Queensland High Performance team will have all expenses covered to atted the state high performance camp on the Gold Coast in January.

Queensland Cyclones State Team

The Queensland Cyclones State Team for 2009 will be announced at the conclusion of the State High Performance Camp.  Members from Queensland clubs are invited to nominate for selection in the Queensland Representative Team to contest the 2009 Australian Interstate Championships to be conducted on Wednesday 18th March 2008 at Scarborough Beach, Western Australia to coincide with the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships.  The event formats allow the maximum team number to be 75 per state, that being 32 juniors and 43 senior athletes.  This obvious new format will allow for 'specialist athletes' to be selected into the Surf Life Saving Queensland 'CYCLONES' State Team.  Participants in the State HP Camp are not guaranteed selection in the State Team.  To find the list of selection carnivals and any more information on the state team please see the nomination for the 2009 Queensland Cyclones Representative Team circular (54.08.08) in the SLSQ circulars section on the website.

Coaching

Surf Life Saving Queensland conducts level 1 coaching courses in each branch annually as a lead in to the surf sports season.  If you are interested in becoming a coach keep your eyes open for the next round of coaching courses in your area, generally running from August to October each year. Coaching accreditation lasts for four years and at the conclusion of this time all coaches must complete the attached relicence form and submit it to Surf Life Saving Queensland to become re-accredited.

Coaches who have held their level 1 accreditation for at least 12 months are eligible to go on and complete their level 2.  At least one level 2 coaching course is held a year in the winter months. If you are interested look out for enrolement forms which will be available towards the conclusion of the 2007/08 season.
